Our Story

Kyle and Fallene started dating August 9th of 2001, and married in 2004 since then it’s been a life full of adventures.

Fallene started her career in Cosmetology, and opened a salon with Kyle in 2013 called Let Em Have It Salon in Denver Colorado that’s still in operation today. After a long career in telecommunications, Kyle took the risk and opened a coffee shop called Torpedo Coffee and shortly after opened Close Quarters coffee and cocktails. After the COVID pandemic, we reevaluated our life purpose. Before we knew it we were on a hamster wheel of working to live, and have forgotten how to live!

We thought about all the things that brought us happiness, turns out the things that made us the happiest, we were doing less of. Traveling, gardening, relaxing with a glass of wine and a book, spending time outdoors, writing, making time to create and explore new things.

We always had wonderful memories when we traveled in Europe, and we came across Galicia, Spain when we were searching for places we would want to start our next chapter. We took the leap, sold all our businesses, and packed up our 4 cats and moved to Spain August 9th 2022.

About La Casa Del Castaño

We started this site to document our journey of selling our business, home and belongings in the US and relocating to the rural countryside of O Rosal in Northern Spain. What began as a way to share our experiences has grown into much more.

We’re big animal lovers, and we have a soft spot for cats! As we settled here we noticed a population of stray cats visiting our property. We wanted to help provide them with shelter, spay, neuter, and provide medical care when needed. We decided to transform our old chicken coop to help our cat pilgrims on their journey. To raise funds for their needs, Fallene started cutting hair in our cottage “Cuts 4 Cats”.

Follow us on instagram we share photos of our outdoor cat family along with renovation updates, recipes, gardening and travel adventures throughout Europe.

As we continue renovating our cottages, we’re looking forward to offering Airbnb accommodations with vegetarian garden-to-table dining options.

We hope our page inspires you, and we look forward to accommodating you in the future!
